Simply stated, hermeneutics is both the science and art of interpreting Scripture. It is the discipline of discovering God’s intended meaning before applying the truth to our lives. It provides us with the principles that help us move from simply reading the Bible to accurately understanding its meaning.
Why Hermeneutics Matters
How we interpret Scripture shapes how we know God. If our interpretation is careless, our understanding of God will be distorted. Faithful interpretation leads us to know God more clearly, understand His truth more accurately, and follow Jesus Christ more faithfully.
