Understanding God’s Word requires more than simply reading the textโit requires carefully studying what God has revealed.
If hermeneutics provides the principles for interpreting Scripture, exegesis is the method of applying those principles to a specific passage. It is where the principles of faithful interpretation become the practice of faithful Bible study.
Drawing Out God’s Meaning
The word exegesis means “to draw out.” Rather than reading our own ideas, experiences, or opinions into Scripture, exegesis seeks to discover the meaning God intended to communicate through the inspired human author.
Every faithful student of God’s Word begins with one foundational question:
What did God intend this passage to mean?
Only after answering that question are we prepared to faithfully apply God’s timeless truth to our lives.
Our Four-Step Approach
Throughout Two-Edged Sword Ministries, we encourage a simple four-step process for studying Scripture:
๐๏ธ Observe Carefully: What does the text say?
๐ Interpret Accurately: What did the author intend to communicate?
๐ Correlate Biblically: How does this passage fit within the rest of Scripture
โค๏ธ Apply Faithfully: How should I respond?

The Heartbeat of This Ministry

At Two-Edged Sword Ministries, we believe exegesis is not reserved for pastors, professors, or seminary students. Every follower of Jesus Christ can grow in studying God’s Word carefully, confidently, and faithfully.
